UNFPA South Sudan and partners are restoring hope to the integrated returnees in Renk. The Sudan crisis has negatively impacted the lives of women and girls. Thanks to United Nations CERF, for funding, through UNFPA South Sudan Hope Restoration South Sudan  is rebuilding the lives of these women through Income Generation Activities.

Women are essential in preventing conflict and in ensuring sustainable peace, there are example of women who succeeded in leading peace and yet women largely remain excluded from the peace negotiations. Majority of times, when we talk about majority of women in the peace process, we talk about awareness but in reality it must go far beyond awareness raising to acknowledge women role in peace building and enhancing their role in peace building.

The evidence is clear: When girls are given the power to make an informed choice about marriage, they marry later. Laws are an important first step, but programmes are also needed to empower girls with information about their rights and educate parents about the benefits of keeping their daughters in school.

For more than five years now, UNFPA has been working with South Sudan's Ministry of Health to address the problem of maternal deaths in the country, which has one of the highest, if not the highest, in the world. The Strengthening Midwifery Services Project, funded by the governments of Sweden and Canada, is changing this narrative. By supporting the development of human resources for health, such as providing scholarship grants to midwifery and nursing students, supporting health sciences institutes and health facilities, and deploying national and international midwives to various parts of the country, access to life-saving midwifery services is now more possible for South Sudan's women and their families.
